Patience Almost Paid Off

“Patience is the cheapest thing in racing but seldom used” a quote made famous by the legendary Bart Cummings. For most involved in racing, race horse ownership definitely tests your level of patience when it comes to being in the winners circle, a feeling I know oh so well.

If you have been following my story (never too late if you haven’t) you will know that 3 years ago I was unfortunately landed in debt for a horse that is now known as Ravitude. Over this period of time, I have had to deal with a lot however got to taste that winning feeling back on 26th August 2017 when he broke his maiden status (won his first race) in the small mining town of Cobar.

Earlier this year, Ravitude was relocated closer to home and the Central Coast township of Gosford to a new trainer. He is not the easiest horse to deal with as he has a lot of bad habits that have been quite hard to manage, but the new team have persisted with him and hopefully are beginning to work him out.

In his first run for the new stable he ran a good 3rd at Taree however, cost himself the win because he did a few things wrong. He then put in a few nice runs running fourth before deciding to put in some real shockers which resulted in some of the lease holders deciding that they wanted to part ways with him. So more paperwork was done and a change to his ownership group and some heavy words into his big ears, we sent him back out again and he continued to show ability before returning to his bad habit of not trying.

Friday 31st August, the last day of winter and the Nick Mitchell Racing stable headed south to the city of Goulburn after we failed to get a run at Kempsey. We were lining up in the last of the day over 1400m, the rain was coming down which for us was not a concern as we knew that our horse loves a wet track.

Ravitude jumped out the best he ever has and travelled really well for the jockey, looking the winner within the shadows of the post, we were unfortunately run down by a proven wet tracker horse. Although not victorious it was still a very great run by Ravitude and hopefully the next win is not too far away, as he continues to test our patience.

We now sit hoping the win is not too far away!

Watch Ravitude just miss out on victory
